Great Outdoors

There’s so much to do in the countryside groups can spend a whole day at many of the attractions below

Morning: If you’re full of energy join staff from the Castleshaw Centre (external link), Delph for an action packed session of canoeing, mountain biking, raft building, or rock climbing. Reach for the heights on the high ropes course, or head underground and explore the new Artificial Cave (great for rainy days) where you can squeeze, walk, and duck your way through different sized tunnels finding stalactites and fossils.

Alternatively, head for the RSPB managed Dove Stone reservoir where gentle waterside trails and tranquil beauty spots make this a great place to see rare birds, mountain hares and much more. An easy access path runs around the reservoir, or you can climb up Chew Valley and across the moors to Ashway Gap for stunning views across Saddleworth.

Afternoon: Find creature comforts of different kind at Higher Oxhey Farm, Denshaw home to Animal Farm. A visit to the Animal Farm is included with your trek, or can be booked independently. Rare breed chickens, pigs, sheep and more, talks on the animals and hands-on activities are also available on request.

Alternatively arrange a clay pigeon shoot at Running Hill Clay Pigeon Club above UppermillGroups can book an afternoon session after the regular Sunday morning club shoot (26 during the year), or a limited number of dedicated shooting days are also available.

Evening: After a busy afternoon on the hills, head indoors for a relaxing dinner in one of Saddleworth’s lovely restaurants or pubs.
