Savoy Cabbage

tomatoesWith its dark green crinkly or curled leaves, Savoy cabbage has quite a different texture and appearance from white, spring or green cabbage. It has loose tender leaves and a mellow flavour, making it a great accompaniment for salads and stir fry recipes.

Harvest:  October to January

Height: 20cm - 30cm

Planting Distance: 60cm apart

Soil: Well drained, moisture retentive soil

Position: Plant in a sunny position from the end of July

Planting

Plant outdoors in the ground. Dig in soil improver or vegetable compost before planting. Use a dibber to make a good size hole and position each plant with top of root ball level with the soil surface. Replace soil around root balls, firm in and water well.

Prepare planting holes and position each plant with the top of the root ball level with soil surface. Then replace soil around root balls, firm in and water well.

Aftercare

Water regularly and feed with a fruit and vegetable food.

TOMATOES

tomatoesThe ‘money-maker’ is a well known and much loved variety of tomato for any home gardener. The money-maker produces large trusses of smooth, medium size fruits and is a very reliable cropper, ideal in salads or for culinary uses.

Harvest:  July to September

Height: 2m x 50cm

Planting Distance: 25cm apart

Soil: Well drained, moisture retentive soil

Position: Greenhouse or sunny sheltered site outside

Planting

Money-maker tomatoes can be planted in several locations such as, into growing bags, 25cm pots or directly into the ground. We would recommend using either peat free multipurpose compost or John Innes No 2 compost.

Prepare planting holes and position each plant with the top of the root ball level with soil surface. Then replace soil around root balls, firm in and water well.

Aftercare

Water regularly and feed with a liquid tomato food. If necessary you should support the plant with bamboo canes or vertical strings.

Don’t forget to pinch out any side shoots that develop.
