Pride of Saddleworth Festival 2019
A BRAND new arts festival celebrating LGBT+ life in Saddleworth.
Pride of Saddleworth will bring events including theatre, hiking, art exhibitions, brass bands, tea dances and Britain’s first LGBT Brass Band, created especially for the event, on August 3 and 4 2019.
Organised by Saddleworth Live and The Weavers Factory with all proceeds going to local charities.
The festival will kick off at 10am on Saturday, August 3 at the Weavers Factory in New Street, Uppermill to start the busy weekend of events. Activities will incode a cycle race organsied by the British Cycling Association and celebrated artist Sina Sparrow will be presenting his first solo show at the Weavers Factory during the festival. Sina’s work explores themes of popular culture, movie icons, camp and cult B-Movies, pop idols, LGBT culture, and comic book heroes.
Following the launch is the “Big Pride Climb” organised by Pride Sports which will head all the way up to Pots and Pans and back down again, although there will also be less strenuous activities taking place including film screenings, and ceramics workshops. An afternoon party at the Civic Hall will include singing, comedy, a performance from the English National Jazz Orchestra and a performance by Britain’s first LGBT Brass Band specially put together for the festival.
The festival will close with a gala concert at Uppermill Civic Hall that will include a wonderful 2-hour evening of theatre, comedy, cabaret and song from international cabaret star Velma Celli’s hit show ‘A Brief History of Drag’.
