POSTPONED: An Evening with Mike Sweeney

Music and stories from Mike Sweeney, in conversation with BBC Radio Manchester's Becky Want.

Millgate Arts Centre, Stonewood Road Delph

Sat 4th July 2020, 8pm

Doors open 7pm, Show starts 8pm

The presenter and DJ, who hosts the mid-morning show on BBC Radio Manchester, officially kicked off his illustrious radio career back in 1981 when he joined the famous Piccadilly Radio. He caught the attention of the Controller there after he saw him playing with his punk band The Salford Jets, whose hit single, ‘Who You Looking At’ peaked at No72 in the charts.

Since then he has gone on to carve out a career which has seen him gather a loyal following picking up a raft of industry accolades on the way. Now a proud Saddleworth resident, he’s presented on most radio stations across the North West and even had a spell on telly – not bad for a former coal miner!

Road Directions

The Millgate Arts Centre  is in the centre of Delph, which is one of the beautiful, historic villages that make up the district of Saddleworth - the little slice of Yorkshire that is in the north-eastern part of Greater Manchester (Oldham) that creeps up into foothills the Pennines.

The Millgate Arts Centre is about 12 miles from the centre of Manchester and lies just off the A62, about half way between Manchester and Huddersfield.

Coming from Manchester or Oldham on the A62, about half a mile after passing Albion Farm Shop and Cafe on your left,  turn left at The Sound (just before The Old Bell Inn). You will find the Millgate on your left in the centre of the village, opposite the free public car park on Millgate.

It is not far from the M62 motorway - about 5 miles from either Junction 21 (Milnrow)  or  Junction 22 (Saddleworth) towards Oldham/Manchester.
