Live@thelibrarylocal 2018 Centenary
Conscientious Objection in Oldham By Dorothy Bintley
Uppemill Library
Tuesday 2nd October 6pm
To commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War, live@thelibrary is hosting a series of talks and perfomances about Oldham during the war from the frontline to the homefront.
After the passing of the Conscription Act in 1916, thousands of men across the country decided to resist compulsory military service, risking jail for their beliefs. This talk reveals the stories of some of the 150 conscientious objectors so far uncovered in Oldham.
