Description
Saddleworth Museum and Art Gallery is situated in one of the out buildings of the 19th century Victoria Mill. The only part of the mill to survive - it stands in a historic and beautiful location beside the Huddersfield Narrow Canal in the village of Uppermill.
Explore the history, landscape and people of Saddleworth. Particularly popular with children, visit the interior of an eighteenth century weaver’s cottage, a Victorian house and a shop window with changing displays.
The Textile Gallery has working machinery showing the weaving process from mule to Dobcross Loom.
The Transport and Communications Gallery shows the Tame Valley as a vital transport link between Yorkshire and Lancashire from Roman times to the canals, railways and the famous Standedge Tunnel. There are also bicycle, vintage cars and motorcycles on display.
