Cottage handbook for any queries you may have relating to your accommodation

Craven Cottage started out as a small wooden house where a family of 8 use to live, sleeping in hammocks after unfortunately being evicted out of their home in the 1860’s.

The adjacent Oakdene Farm has been the working hub of Pennine Helicopters for nearly 30 years, specialising in Pleasure Flights, Underslung Load Lifting and Aerial Firefighting.  The cottage is popular with visiting pilots using the secure helipad, with 24 hour infrared CCTV. Chris and his wife Julia run the Cottage, with the help of their daughter Charlotte. Julia has a keen eye for attention to detail, perfection and cleanliness – ensuring your cottage is spic and span and ready for you to enjoy!

Externally you access the Cottage via your own gated private track off the main A62, leading down to an automatically flood lit parking area. From here there are some steps leading down to the cottage with a pretty cottage rockery and patio. A path leads you around to the front door, from here it continues around to the south side of the Cottage where you will find a secluded BBQ area with seating and an amazing view.

The interior is furnished to a high standard as Chris and Julia wanted to make sure the Cottage was ‘up to standard’ for when guests and friends come to stay. From the living kitchen, patio doors open out onto the BBQ area.

Craven Cottage enjoys some of the best views in Saddleworth looking towards the Peak District, at the same time giving you everything you should need for a quiet and relaxing few nights away, or for a weeks holiday where you wish to use it as a base thanks to its central location. Saddleworth itself has lots of interesting days out to offer, before needing to venture out of the ‘shire’. No wonder it’s known by the locals as ‘God’s own country’.

Craven Cottage is in a beautiful location and a perfect place for exploring. We feel truly lucky to live in such a beautiful area located on the edge of the Pennines, with fantastic links to nearby areas. .
