Oxfam was founded in 1942 to help alleviate famine in occupied Greece. Its first charity shop opened in 1948 and since then Oxfam has become one of the most well-known charity shops on the High Street. Oldham’s own Ofxam shop opened in 1961 and Mary Pendlebury who has worked as a volunteer for Oxfam for many years tells the extraordinary story of Oxfam in Oldham.
